DESIGN SUPPORT
GMP Welding’s Design Support services bridge the gap between concept and production, helping engineers, designers, and product developers create fabrications that are manufacturable, cost-effective, and optimized for real-world production. With over 40 years of hands-on fabrication experience, our team brings practical knowledge that complements engineering theory, identifying potential issues before they become costly problems on the shop floor.
Design for Manufacturing (DFM)
What is DFM?
Design for Manufacturing is the practice of designing products with manufacturing processes in mind, optimizing designs to be easier, faster, and more cost-effective to produce while maintaining functionality and quality. DFM identifies potential manufacturing challenges early, when changes are inexpensive and easy to implement.
Our DFM Process
Initial Review: We review your design concepts, CAD models, or sketches to understand functional requirements, performance specifications, and manufacturing constraints.
Manufacturability Analysis: Our team evaluates the design from a fabrication perspective, identifying areas where manufacturing complexity, cost, or risk can be reduced without compromising performance.
Recommendations: We provide specific, actionable recommendations covering material selection, weld joint design, tolerance rationalization, assembly optimization, and process selection.
Design Iteration: We work with you through design iterations, refining the approach until we arrive at an optimal balance of performance, manufacturability, and cost.
Production Validation: For new designs, we often recommend prototype builds to validate manufacturing processes before committing to production tooling or large quantities.
